Effingham September Adventure Event

Sunday 27th September

September will see a return of your favorite Adventure Events again in Effingham with the new Social Distance measures in place! Why are we heading back to Effingham in September? See below…

Again, it will be a different map to the July and August Event.

Update Wednesday 23rd September:
All good for Sunday!
See you there. We have just over 100 signed up so far. The reason I have not actively promoted this Adventure event is that we have limited parking due to the damp weather, Rugby and Football starting back and KGV car park remaining closed. There will be limited car parking at the school, otherwise, it is on the surrounding streets, not on Browns Lane. Please allow time, and remember it is a window start between 08:30 and 10am, so no need to stress!

Update Monday 21st September:
All plans are in place to go ahead on Sunday. I will be monitoring any new guidelines or measures announced by the Prime Ministers’ in his key speech on Tuesday 22nd September. With the return of schools and sports clubs, the demand for the Effingham Facilities will be higher than previously seen at the venue. Parking is a key issue as we will not have access to Browns Field due to the Autumnious weather, the hall car park will also remain closed due to the threat of travelers. So, please allow plenty of time to arrive and find somewhere to park on the streets in and around Effingham, just not on Browns Lane due to the congestion this causes for local residents. The capacity of this event has been limited due to the parking situation/availability.

There is 100% Entry Fee Refund should Covid-19 be the cause of a Cancellation.

Event Date: Sunday 27th September.

Registration open from 07:30am for all events. Start window for individuals/pairs from 08:30am to 10am. Please can the Long Course be off earlier. There will be no mass start!

ADJUSTMENTS I AM MAKING DUE TO CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES:
Expect updates as we approach the event day, this event will be similar to the July and August Event.
Below are the measure/changes I will be putting in place for this event to protect the health of competitors and the Tri-Adventure staff, and by no means are there to impact on the enjoyment of the event.

  • If you feel unwell on the event day, or have recently tested positive for covid, be sensible and stay away.
  • Toilets may only be accessed one person at a time as per NEW arrangements.  Door locks and ‘occupied’ signage will be used. We have been allocated a reduced amount of toilet access, different from July and August, these will be accessed from the front of the building.
  • As like last time, please don’t park on Brown’s Lane as we know this can create congestion for road users and residents. It is unlikely we will have access to Brown’s Field for parking due to Autumn weather. So, please park sensibly in and around the village. I am enquiring about some parking availability at the school.
  • I have chosen this venue due to the space it offers with the ability to respect social distancing which at the moment is 1m+. So, 2m if possible
  • There will be NO MASS START. Instead, there will be a ‘window of opportunity’ start for individuals/pairs for when they are ready between 08:30am-10:00am. Please don’t leave it too late to start. Please can 4 hour guys be off by 9am.
  • The plan is to have HQ set up entirely outdoors.
  • There will be a hand sanitizing station available as well as rubber gloves.
  • Any map planning/studying can be done wherever!  On the lovely sunny pitches or away in your car if wet!
  • There will be access to the toilets and NO access to the changing rooms. There is the Transition area. Please leave valuables at home or safely locked away out of sight in your cars.
  • Transition will have no racking and will instead be a large area of the rugby field where you will lay your bikes down. There will be an in and way out so that your bikes and kit can be watched over by my crew during the event.
  • To minimise any risk of contamination, Maps, Event Numbers, pins and Dibbers will be pre-packed well in advance of the event and quarantined during the days before. They will then be pegged up on the ‘line’ with a clean, gloved set of hands ready for you to collect once you know your number.
  • My plan is to email everyone their number before so that you are ready prepared.
  • There will be bins outside for any rubbish.
  • Baggage, and Hall access. There will be no access to the hall. Only toilet access that are accessed through the changing rooms.
  • Crew will wear rubber protective gloves.
  • We advise our competitors to wear hand covering gloves during the event. ie, not fingerless.
  • Event closck will display time of day, so make a note of the time and seconds to be back by.
  • Please bring your own supply of water for the duration of the event. There will be no water tub by the transition.
  • The usual catering will not be selling tea/coffee or the usual yummy cakes as before. Food (Oat and chocolate bars) items will be for sale, but will be pre-packaged and drinks will be in cartons to purchase. There is a village shop very nearby where you can source some additional supplies. Payments can be on card.
  • The KGV Hall car park has actually been closed off and highly likely to be the same on the day. Parking, I have arranged a PLAN A, as it is going to be dry, to park people in the school field opposite the Hall entrance, see signage on the day and map image below. PLAN B is arranged for the Howard of Effingham School Car Park (KT24 5JR) around the corner to be open. There is going to be plenty of parking and HQ will be found along a signed route.
  • We will not offer to hold on to your keys.
  • Download desk for your results will be outside and close to the finish flags. You will need to dib the download as soon after you finish and return your dibber to us. There may be a screen available for latest results.
  • Please respect the 1m+ social distancing rule currently in place for everybody’s enjoyment on the day. There is plenty of room for us all.
  • There will be no prize giving on the day. Instead, prizes will be emailed out once all results have been collected.
  • If there are Entries on the day, payment should be paid by card.

Why are we returning to Effingham again in September? It has been a challenge to secure venues that first of all have enough space to deliver a socially distanced event, suitable area for transition and then also has enough parking capacity. Parking becomes a challenge as we approach the Autumn months with the risk of now saturated ground being damaged by vehicle use. Venues are not responding to the inquiries I am making or are not accepting any external hires at this moment in time. So, to continue to deliver our monthly events, I have booked another event at Effingham and will again have a different map to previous months.

Email: Sent out to competitors will be linked here.

Below is a clickable map of the venue and Parking. It looks as though Plan A will not be possible, Plan B may be in play, alternative is to park on the surrounding streets, but on on Brown’s Lane please.

HQ Location: Effingham Village Hall, Browns Lane, Effingham Leatherhead, Surrey, KT24 5ND

Arriving by Train: Effingham Junction is closest, 2 miles or so North of the venue‎.

Yoga Workout by Jenni @ Yogifit.co.uk There will be post-run, socially distanced Yoga stretch to ease those tired legs.

You must stick to the public rights of way and use your 1:25,000 OS waterproof map which we provide, to navigate the trails and hills on foot and bike to collect as many checkpoints as you can within the set time.  New to Adventure Racing?
