We are excited to announce that Tri-Adventure will continue to deliver the Open5 events that James at Open Adventure set up over 16 years ago.

The next event is going to be on Sunday 5th March 2023 in Coniston, in the Lake District. The HQ, Start/Finish & Transition, as well as the parking, will be at the John Ruskin School in Coniston.

THERE IS ANOTHER EVENT ON IN CONISTON, WE ARE AT THE SCHOOL

Expect the same setup as previous Open5 events. A 5-hours period to collect as many points as possible within the time limit, this is done by visiting checkpoints of varying points value. There will be points lost for arriving back late. The event is open to solos and pairs using their navigation skills both on the mountain biking and on the running trails.

The Open5 Concept
You will have 5 hours to visit as many points (controls) as you can. Some can only be collected by mountain bike others by foot.
The event will use the SPORTident system of scoring. SI Cards are available to rent at £3.50 per person or can be purchased on-line from SPORTident.

E-Bikers are welcome as we like to be all-inclusive. You’ll have to declare your advantage and will feature in the results as a ‘non-comp E-biker’ and out of the running for any prizes.

New to Open5 events? – Check out more about what to expect here.

Penalties:

If you are more than 5hrs in collecting the controls you will incur penalties at the following rate (Please note these values will be reprinted on the control description card which will be given to you at the event)

1-10 minutes 2 points per minute
11-20 minutes    5 points per minute
21-30 minutes 10 points per minute
31-45 minutes 20 points per minute
46+ minutes lose all points

Cost
The cost of this 5-hour event is £45 per person, this does not include dibber hire. Entries on the day are accepted for an extra £7. Pre-entries will close at midnight on the Thursday before the event.

Transition, Start and Finish
The Start/Finish and Transition will be at the HQ location.

Timing Dibbers

Timing dibber hire is not included in the entry fee. These can be hired for the event at a cost of £3.50. Alternatively, buy your own personal SI-Card 8 or 9 from Sportident here.

Categories
Each Open5 event has five entry categories; 2 solo categories (Male and Female) and 3 pairs categories (Male, Female and Mixed).

The Event Day Process
Register at the event center any time from 8.00 to 9.30 where you will collect a map preprinted with the location of the controls. If you have entered as a pair you must register together.

Solos start between 9.00 and 9.30 and pairs start between 9.00 and 10.00, electing to run or cycle first. At the start you will be given a list of control descriptions each assigned a value. After 5hrs penalties will be incurred.

We only know that for sure once you have returned to registration and downloaded your timing chip. Please do this before 3.30pm – if you don’t we will most likely delay prize giving and task volunteers to start looking for you. Ideally please do so before heading to your car.

Timings
Registration 8:00 to 9:30; Solos start between 9.00 and 9.30 and pairs start between 9.00 and 10.00. You may be able to grab your event pack from us a bit earlier while we are setting up to start studying.

Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category.

I have also updated the individual Open5 event total points tally.
